MANY SENIORS MAKE HOUSING CHOICES WELL BEFORE RETIREMENT

A two year study by the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University discovered that more than half of all seniors move into their retirement home before they turn 50 years old, and 80 percent of seniors settle into their retirement home by age 65. The report also found that 90 of seniors older than 70 still live in conventional housing, creating a need for more ramps, elevators, stair lifts, and grab bars in residences. Only three percent of seniors over 70 live in assisted care housing. The report also revealed that while more seniors are using the Internet in their home search, many are choosing to remain in their current homes during retirement.
